Our Lady of Peace 2013 BBQ

Since first coming to our area in 1953, the beautiful Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows at Our Lady of Peace Retreat center have served our community.  As the sisters say on their webpage,  "It was no mere accident, but rather one of those fine threads in the web of the Divine Plan that brought to fruition another project of importance to the spiritual life in this area.".   And so, for over 60 years, countless retreats have enriched the spiritual lives of many in our local Catholic community.  Our Lady of Peace has also been the site for our annual St. Juan Diego RCIA Palm Sunday retreats, and for many Knights of Columbus events such as our recent officers installation dinner.

The sisters rely on help and support of benefactors.  There are many ways to support the sisters.  You can make a donation, go on a retreat, or visit the wonderful retreat house gift store to purchase great books, rosaries, and first communion gifts.

Another big fundraiser for the sisters is their annual mid-summer Our Lady of Peace Retreat BBQ. This event features great food, raffle prizes, games, and live entertainment.  Of course, the miniature ponies are a big hit with the kids.

This year's event was held on Sunday Aug 4th.  The menu featured pulled pork, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, corn on the cob, coleslaw, baked beans, and watermelon.  Each year local Knights of Columbus councils work together to make the event a big success for the sisters.  This year, thanks be to God, St. Juan Diego Council 15729 was able to join in for the first time and work along with brothers from many other local councils.
Hopefully, this event will become a fun annual service event for our council.  By doing so we can have fun, enjoy some good food, and  help to ensure that the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows can continue to live out their vocations and provide retreats at Our Lady of Peace for many decades to come.

Let us be "one of those fine threads in the web of the Divine Plan" that help to make this happen.
